MINS lab, June 2019

Meeting attendees in the lab

The Mayfield Education & Research Foundation was proud to host the 10th Annual Minimally Invasive Neurosurgical Society meeting. Held at the Mayfield Surgical Innovation Center, this annual event drew surgeons, advanced practice providers and medical device representatives from across the United States and Mexico.

Over the course of three days, health care professionals learned new and innovative minimally invasive techniques to improve patient outcomes and potentially reduce healthcare costs. Eighteen lectures were also given on topics that included approaches to pituitary tumors, outpatient lumbar fusion preparation, complex spinal deformity surgery, and complex minimally invasive thoracic surgery.

Andy Ringer, MD, discussing endovascular neurosurgery at the MINS meeting

This was the first year that the Minimally Invasive Neurosurgical Society meeting was held at Mayfield Foundation facilities, and it received positive reviews. At the meeting's conclusion, some participants noted their:

  • improvement of professional practice and patient care through the hands-on
  • exposure to and practice with new approaches and/or instrumentation
  • plans to expand minimally invasive TLIFs in outpatient settings
  • acquisition of valuable insight on the future of minimally invasive surgery
